Sperm Donor Requirements in Denver, CO

Sperm Donor Requirements in Denver, Colorado

Consider becoming a sperm donor in Denver, CO, where you can play a pivotal role in helping families realize their dreams of parenthood. At Denver Sperm Bank, we take pride in supporting families worldwide by connecting them with sperm donors. Our program is especially crucial for LGBTQIA families, single parents by choice, and those facing male-factor infertility.

If you’re interested in joining our donor program, here are the key requirements:

Age Criteria:

Applicants must be between 18 and 39 years old. As men age, their sperm quality declines in both number of available sperm cells and their potential for creating healthy offspring. This can start to happen in a man’s early 40’s so for that reason there are age restrictions for this type of donation.

Semen Analysis:

The process begins with an online application, followed by an in-person visit to our lab for a semen analysis. This step is critical in evaluating sperm quality. Samples are analyzed for sperm counts, sperm motility, and if anything, else stands out about the sample- for example if there is an elevated white blood count it could indicate an active infection. Since all donated samples will be frozen prior to treatment use, samples are also frozen and thawed to see if the sperm cells survive the process.  If needed, donors might undergo a second analysis. It should be noted that low or borderline results don’t necessarily indicate fertility issues.

Medical and Family History:

As part of the application process, e meticulously review personal and family medical histories. This helps prospective parents in making informed decisions about their child’s well-being. Our Genetic Counselors conduct screenings to identify any genetic trends that may indicate underlying genetic conditions. It is not unusual for someone to be a carrier of a genetic condition that does not impact their life. However, this is important medical information for the intended parents and any future offspring.

Health Assessment:

Our physician conducts a thorough physical examination to ensure your overall health. Blood and urine tests for infectious diseases are part of the screening process to safeguard patient health and provide insights into your well-being. You will have access to all of your medical results and are welcome to share with your personal physician as well.
